The Hemel Hempstead NCS programme

Summer 2019 schedule for the programme for young people in the Hemel Hempstead area:

Part 1 – Embark on an adventure
You’ll spend four nights away from home at Kibblestone International Scout Campsite in Staffordshire (ST15 8UJ). There you’ll experience the freedom of living away from home in an outdoor environment. You’ll take part in a whole spectrum of adrenaline-fuelled activities, such as raft building, archery, rock climbing, and the high ropes 'leap of faith'. You’ll get to know your team mates, build confidence and leadership skills and achieve things you never thought possible.

  • Wave 1: 1–5 July
  • Wave 2: 15–19 July
  • Wave 3: 29 July–2 August
  • Wave 4: 5–9 August

Part 2 – Build skills for life
Part 2 is a further four nights away from home at the University of Hertfordshire's De Havilland Campus in Hatfield (AL10 9EU). This week is all about developing skills for life. You’ll take part in workshops and learn skills such as emergency first aid. No team will make it through this week without mastering the art of communication and encouragement.

  • Wave 1: 8–12 July
  • Wave 2: 22–26 July
  • Wave 3: 5–9 August
  • Wave 4: 12–16 August

Part 3 – Back on home turf
Part 3 is 30 hours over five days (non-residential) based at the YC Hertfordshire Young People's Centre at the XC Centre, Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead. You’ll have the opportunity to design your own social action project, which will benefit your local community. You’ll pitch your ideas to the rest of your team and then work together to plan, research and create the resources needed to turn your ideas into reality.

  • Wave 1: 15–19 July
  • Wave 2: 29 July–2 August
  • Wave 3: 12–16 August
  • Wave 4: 19–23 August

Part 4 – Make your mark on your local community
During Part 4 you’ll spend a further 30 hours over five days (non-residential) at the XC Centre making your project come to life, demonstrating the impressive skills you’ve developed and working with your team to make a lasting difference in your local area.

  • Wave 1: 22–26 July
  • Wave 2: 5–9 August
  • Wave 3: 19–23 August
